Setting odds on No-Spam and Do-Not-Call Bills

Recent developments in the No Spam and Do Not Call Bills currently under review in the US continue to keep eMarketers and TeleMarketers wondering what the outcome will be.

According to a new provision in one of the leading bills in Congress that would crack down on spam, a revised draft of the bill would let bulk e-mailers form a self-regulatory group responsible for maintaining e-mail standards of conduct. The draft is being circulated to members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, according to The Associated Press.

A federal judge in Oklahoma City recently ruled in favor of the Direct Marketing Association in its challenge to the Federal Trade Commission's national no-call list. The judge ruled that the FTC lacks the authority to create a national no-call list and that jurisdiction for creating the list fell with the Federal Communications Commission.

Watch for updates in our subsequent newsletters, but call your Bookie for today's line on the outcome.

Marketing Tips
Why is Search Engine Visibility Important?

• Consumers are five times more likely to buy your product or service after finding your web site through a search engine rather than through a banner advertisement (NDP Group, January 2002)

• 28% of consumers that want to purchase a product online go to a search engine and type in the product name as a search query (Jupitermedia, 2002)

G2E Show

At a glance, this years Global Gaming Expo revealed the optimism within the industry, as attendance and business seemed to be up. The larger than usual release of new branded games, including Men in Black, Gilligan's Island, and Saturday Night Live themed slots, attest to the increase in category spend expected in the coming years. The online sector continues to cautiously grow through expanded geo-targeting and greater use of traditional media.

We would like to extend a special "thank-you" to all of our existing, new, and potential clients and suppliers that made a point of dropping by our booth, making Spotted Dog Media's first year as an exhibitor exceptionally successful!

Congratulations go out to Marcy Morris, Group Sales Manager of the Coeur d'Alene Casino in Idaho, the winner of our drawing for a week for 2 at the luxurious Ritz Carlton Resort, Spa & Casino in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico! Hound Humour

A girl was visiting her blonde friend who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were. The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and the other Timex. Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?" "HellOOOooo", answered the blonde. "They're watch dogs!"
